Cougar Ridge PTSA Mission Statement
To enhance student learning through programs, events, and funding that support school-based curriculum and to advocate for the health, safety, education, and welfare of all children.

In the fall of 1992 Cougar Ridge Elementary opened and with that began the Cougar Ridge Parent Teacher Student Association. Known as Cougar Ridge PTSA, we are a part of an association that is organized at the local, state and national levels. By joining our local PTSA you are automatically a member of the Washington State PTA and the National PTA. Current enrollment is over 6.5 million nationally.

As you might be aware, PTA/PTSA is a private non-profit nationwide organization of parents, teachers, students, and community members. PTA/PTSA is the largest volunteer organization working on behalf of its members to enhance student learning through programs, events, and funding that support school based curriculum and to advocate for the health, safety, education, and welfare of ALL children. We are currently registered through the Washington Secretary of State as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which enables us to accept donations for the PTSA on a tax-deductible basis and qualify for matching funds from corporations.

Our local PTSA consists of a general membership, which is governed by a Board of Directors and within that board, an elected group of officers. Our Board of Directors and its officers meet on a monthly basis. We are also fortunate to have the principal and a teacher representative in attendance at our meetings. These meetings are open to anyone and we encourage you to attend.

The general membership holds a minimum of two general meetings during the school year. At the fall General Membership meeting, the PTSA Standing Rules are approved and a nominating committee is elected. The nominating committee recruits candidates to be submitted for election as our officers. At the spring General Membership meeting, the nominating committee submits its slate of officers, which are then voted upon. The PTSA Operating Budget is also approved at the Spring meeting.

Since its inception, Cougar Ridge PTSA has accomplished numerous goals while continuing to advocate for all children. We were recognized in 2001 as the Washington State Outstanding Local Unit. We have reached 100% membership since the 1997-1998 school year and have also had continual strong membership support from our staff. It truly shows the commitment that our community feels for the well being of our youth.

If you have any questions about PTSA or would like more information, please contact the PTSA President, who can be found on our PTSA Organization Chart.

Your involvement, whether at home, in school, or in your community does make a difference! Cougar Ridge PTSA is committed to helping you do so.
